How We Test and Score Products

Last updated July 27, 2026

Why we publish this

Most supplement rankings do not explain how the ranking was produced, which makes them impossible to check. Here is ours, in full.

What we do not do

We want to be direct about the limits of this site, because that is more useful to you than pretending otherwise.

  • We do not run clinical trials. No blog does. When we say an ingredient works, we mean published research supports it, and we link to that research.
  • We do not lab-test products for purity. If we ever do, we will publish the lab and the results.
  • We do not claim to have personally taken every product. Our reviews are analyses of formulation, evidence, pricing and reported user experience, not personal testimonials.

The four things we score

1. Evidence behind the ingredients (40%)

We check each active ingredient against the published literature for peripheral neuropathy specifically, not for general wellness. An ingredient with randomised controlled trials in diabetic neuropathy scores far above one with traditional use only. Where a studied dose exists, such as roughly 600 mg per day for alpha-lipoic acid, we check whether the product plausibly delivers it.

2. Formulation quality (25%)

Forms matter as much as ingredients. Methylcobalamin scores above cyanocobalamin for B12. Magnesium glycinate scores above magnesium oxide. Benfotiamine scores above plain thiamine. We also look at whether per-ingredient doses are disclosed at all, and we mark products down when they are hidden behind a proprietary blend.

3. Value and guarantee (20%)

We calculate the real cost per bottle at the bundle most people buy, not the headline price of the largest bundle. Then we look at the refund window. A guarantee shorter than the time the product needs to work is not a real guarantee, which matters here because nerve supplements need 6 to 12 weeks.

4. What buyers report (15%)

We read independent review platforms and look for patterns rather than individual complaints, separating problems with the product from problems with billing or customer service, because those are different risks to you.

How the score is expressed

Scores are shown out of 5 and are our editorial assessment. They are not customer ratings and we do not present them as aggregate user data. When you see 4.3 on this site, it is our judgment against the criteria above, and you are free to disagree with it.

How money affects the ranking

It does not affect the score, and here is the check on that claim: we score products before looking at commission, and we publish products' weaknesses even when we earn from them. Where we have no affiliate relationship with a product we recommend, we say so on the page. Where a product we rank highly pays us, that is disclosed above the first link.

When we update

Prices and formulas change. We re-check the products in our comparison at least every 90 days and update the date at the top of the page. If a formula changes materially, we rewrite the review rather than editing a line.
